
The pictures below are of the Swallow and Smith families on holiday probably around 1958. A likely setting is Canvey Island in the Thames Estuary which was popular for East Enders at the time. Oil terminals can be seen in the background of the photos which tend to support this view.
Above: Winnie Smith (nee Swallow) enjoys the sunshine with her mother Mary (3199). Son Bruce can also be seen in the foreground.
Above: Winnie is now taking the photo as husband Frank Swallow takes to his deckchair complete with traditional English vest.
Above: Double take! Mary is now behind the camera and captures Winnie and Frank together. Someone forgot to wind the film on though as the double exposure gets a ghostly close up of Frank.
Above: Mary watches a very young Bruce enjoy his ice cream. Where did all the hair go?
